A Taste of Santa Teresa on 03/06/10 by Alexandria Prain

When visiting the Santa Teresa area, there are more than enough delicious places to enjoy absolutely amazing meals at any budget. Here is a list of our favorite places to grab a quick cheap bite or an elegant meal:

soda1. Soda: local soda's are a perfect place to enjoy delicious and authentic local cuisine. The town offers a number of great ones, however our favorite is located just down the hill from the Horizon Yoga Resort and Center. Their traditional Casado de Pescado ( Grilled fish served over rice and beans, with a salad and fried plantains) is amazing and cheap.

2. Cafe Liberal: Offering a unique blend of European and Israeli cuisine and beverages, this charming european chic cafe is a true gem for the area. Favorites include their Shashuka with homemade Tahini, their Argentina Alfajores, delicious pressed sandwiches and their Israeli Coffee. Ask the owners about the weekly events as they often have music and movie nights. (506) 2640 0797.

3. The Restaurant at Beija Flor: While located at the charming boutique hotel Beija Flor, the chef here is absolutely spectacular! In fact he is even worth walking to Mal Pais from Santa Teresa for. The menu changes based on the freshest ingredients available and everything is made in-house, including the Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Brownies. You can expect to indulge in off the boat grilled red snapper served over a sweet potato puree with sauteed spinach, mushrooms and garlic. (506) 2640 1007
gingercafe
4. The Ginger Cafe: Situated in the heart of Santa Teresa, this adorable breakfast and lunch spot is a must stop at. They serve amazing plates, mouth-watering coffee and have an inviting atmosphere.

5.Zwart Cafe: If you are looking for the perfect balance of organic and authentic cuisine, this charming cafe and art gallery is by far the most delicious and lovely in town. Offering an amazing list of organic juices and smoothies, delicious sandwiches, mouthwatering Casados and the best burritos in town, Zwart Cafe is a perfect place for lunch or an afternoon snack. 6. Burger Rancho: By far the best fish dishes in town, this "real food joint" offers an amazing mix of Israeli, American and Costa Rican dishes. Their Grilled fish plate, Casado de Pescado and off the menu Thai fish dish will blow you away. (506) 2640 0583

7. Pastry Shop next to Burger Rancho: When you are in the mood for a quick and traditional Costa Rican Pastry, this little hut is the perfect fix. They have a delicious mix of savory empanadas and sweet pastries. The Guava one is an all time favorite.

8. Coconut Lollis: The best kept secret in town...well not so much a secret, but make sure to check at the local super markets for their Coconut Ice cream pops. They in the ice cream section. Make sure to take the one that says COCO on it....absolutely divine!
