
There's no doubt about it, Peru by far offers the most mouth-watering and unique flavor combinations encountered in all of South America, and its capital city of Lima is at the heart of this gastronomic gem. When you make your way to this mystifying country it is more than worth it to spend a day and night in Lima, even if just to savor its culinary delights.
To start perhaps mosey into the beloved local spot Punta Sal for some afternoon ceviche, a dish that has gained true fame when prepared the Peruvian way. If your really feeling like dining like a local make sure to wash it down with some Inca Cola, a bright yellow, bubble-gum flavored soda. The restaurant has two locations, one in Miraflores and the other in San Isidro. Another favorite lunch cevicheria is La Mar, located in Miraflores. Remember, ceviche is only eaten for lunch.
Once the lunch has settled and the hour strikes around 8 or 9 o'clock, make way towards LA 73. This chic and artsy restaurant is a foodie's dream, offering novo Andean cuisine. Here one can experience an informal atmosphere with absolutely gourmet food. The restaurant serves up mouth watering dishes such as Strudel de carne, a flaky pastry the wraps around a rich meat perfectly seasoned with hot peppers and cinnamon. Afterwards, indulge in the favorite Peruvian dessert, churros, friend dough dipped in sugar and chocolate sauce.
As random as it may sound at first, another must dine at experience in Lima is to head over to one of the many Japanese or "chifas" Chinese restaurants. Lima and Peru in general has experienced a large influx of immigrants from a number of Asian countries. The best and most reasonable places to test out are Wa Lok in Lima Centro and Edo Sushibar in San Borja.
